CFL at India’s Daughters Campaign 2015

Welcome to India! The land where a cow is on its way to becoming safer than women are. Where I can hear a woman getting raped, but can do nothing, because the rapist is her husband. When a pedophile, a murderer, a pervert, a rapist, everyone is allowed inside a temple,  but a menstruating woman. Where people murder their baby girls in the womb, but seek the neighbour’s daughter for kanya puja. Where parents are more willing to spend on their daughter’s marriage than her education. We are all too engrossed in the patriarchal set up of our society to pay heed to our girls who are taken for granted in hundreds of ways everyday. Her indentity is restricted to that of her father’s before marriage, and to her husband’s, after. Her behaviour, clothes and even private life is under a constant watch. She is supposed to be impeccable in the kitchen and excel in all household chores. She is expected to shy away from sports and other physical exertion. She is ridiculed if she’s not ‘wife material’ ,because of course, a girl is all about being a worthy wife.

The Study Hall Educational Foundation stands ardent in its belief that girls are, and always have been full of potential and passion that has been shunned for way too long.

Education is the first step to empowerment.Hence, inspired by our honorable Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘Beti Padhao, Beti Bachao’ Campaign. The CEO of the Study Hall Educational Foundation, Dr Urvashi Sahni has set the tone for this years India’s Daughters Campaign to support ‘Beti Padhao, Beti Bachao’ at a local level. CFL shines brightest and has been featured on the India’s Daughters web campaign. Recently, the students of CFL made posters, wrote slogans and articles and talked about the multi-faceted problems faced by girls today. It is overwhelming to see our students getting sensitized in the issue and promising to be better citizens than most today. It was a wonderful array of thoughts and conclusions put up by our students on the issue. It makes us proud to have aware and active children who definitely will be the change the world needs.
