14-year-old girl rescued from child marriage

Agrawati, a 14-year old from Bisauli, Badaun was rescued from child marriage with the intervention of Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya (KGBV) teacher. Currently studying in class 8 at KGBV Bisauli, Agrawati was scheduled to be married on 24 Feb by her parents but with the help of Archana, the teacher at KGBV, she was able to fight off the child marriage.

Aarohini team helps a victim of domestic violence during the lockdown

On April 16, 2020, former activist Iti, from Red.org reported a domestic violence case to Ms Priyanka Saxena, assistant program manager of Aarohini. She shared the contact number of the victim's brother, Pawan. Upon contacting Pawan, we were told that his sister Prem Sheela has been facing domestic violence for the past 6 years, and during the lockdown conditions have worsened for her and her 2 year-old boy.

16-year-old resists child marriage to continue her education

Komal Gautam, a 16 year old studying in class 9 of Medha Balika Inter College, in Chamrupur Block, Laxmanpur District, Pratapgarh. Her father passed away recently and has left behind Komal, her sister Ruby and her mother. After her father’s death, Komal's maternal aunt Saraswati Devi constantly pressured her mother to marry Komal.

Prerna girl rescued from domestic violence during the Lockdown

During the lockdown, there was a steep rise in cases of violence against women and girls. On April 18, Kushboo, a 16 year-old girl from Prerna Girls School called her teacher Aarti and told her that her uncle had bitten her and her mother.

Karishma is a 15 year old girl studying in class X at KGBV Myuan. She lost her father when she was a young girl. Her grandparents pressured her mother into arranging a marriage for Karishma. When she was told of the plan, Karishma objected and informed her mother that she wanted to continue her education. Her pleas were ignored, and a mar0riage was being planned.

Rinki Pal is a former Mona Scholar and student of KGBV Mirzapur. She left the KGBV to complete her class X at Ashirwad Inter College, Mirzapur in 2016. She was among the top science students in her class. Her dream is to study science further, with the eventual hopes of going to medical school and becoming a doctor.
