DOSTI celebrates Autism Awareness Day

DOSTI (Development of Self Through Interaction) an initiative of Study Hall Educational Foundation celebrated Autism Awareness Day on 27 the April 2019. The program started with the special song ‘Jitni dhoop teri, utni dhoop meri’ performed by children. Vaibhav, a student of DOSTI mesmerized the audience with his poetry. The student performed on the synthesizer and bongo.

To raise awareness regarding autism, all the guardians were enthusiastically present in blue dresses. The parents of the students also performed a song on this occasion. Surabhi Kapoor, principal of DOSTI addressed the parents and said, “A child is like a butterfly in the wind, some can fly higher than others, but each one flies the best it can. Why compare one against the other? Each one is different, each one is special, each one is beautiful”.


‘Festival of Democracy’ conducted to celebrate our Constitution at Study Hall College

Study Hall College and Bewajah organization jointly organized ‘Festival of Democracy’ on 11th April 2019 at the Study Hall College, Pipersand, Lucknow. It was an inter-school event in which more than 180 students participated.
Utpal Mishra, director of the study hall college, welcomed the students and said, “This event is not about competition, it’s all about celebration.” Adding to his point he also requested people to vote.\

Masto, member of the Bewajah organization gave an introduction about his organization followed by a brief explanation of the constitution and fundamental rights and duties. The College organized competitions like poster making, rangoli, and slogan writing themed on Equality, Justice, and Fraternity.

Discussion on ‘our constitution and democracy’ took place in the event. The students shared their experience and the challenges they faced while performing the tasks given to them. Students of Vidyasthali performed a song ‘Inqulab Zindabad’.

Masto Said, “The purpose of Constitution is to give goals for self and community.” The program concluded with prize distribution to the participants. The ‘Festival Of democracy’ has also organized a ‘Voting Signature Campaign’ to encourage the people to vote.

India’s Daughter Campaign- Awareness march taken out against child marriage at Vidyasthali

On 19th April 2019 Vidyasthali Kannar Inter College, Malihabad organised awareness march regarding child marriage and promoting girls education.This march was carried out in two villages, Narsing khera and Aatha. This march was a part India’s Daughter Campaign organised yearly by Study Hall Educational Foundation. This Campaign aims to raise awareness regarding girl’s rights and education.

More than 170 members participated in this and reached out to more than 500 community members. The students used slogans like “Bal Vivah Gulami Hai, Yeh Gulami Hume Rukwani Hai”, “Nari Ka Karo Sammaan, Tabhi Banega Desh Mahaan”. The students performed a ‘nukkad Natak’ to explain why child marriage should be forbidden. The students interacted with the community members and asked them take a pledge and say no to child marriage. They also took signatures of the community members.

Study Hall student wins state chess tournament

Prithvi Singh, a class 7th student of Study Hall School won the Uttar Pradesh State Chess Tournament. The tournament was held at Gorakhpur from April 1st to 4th. Prithvi will represent Uttar Pradesh in under 13 at the national level to be held at Vishakhapatnam from May 4th to 12th May. He won the tournament with a perfect score of 7 out of 7 rounds. Prithvi credits his coach Pawan Batham and mother Monika for encouraging him.

4th convocation of Nursery and Primary Teacher Training held

The 4th convocation of Nursery and Primary Teacher Training was held in the Prep School, Study Hall, on March 25, 2019. The families of graduating trainees were in full attendance, elated and proud.
Study Hall Educational Foundation (SHEF) runs a teacher training program. Over 50 women have found new avenues and life-changing opportunities through the platform. 16 trainees who have undergone training under different programmes during the year were awarded certificates by Dr. Urvashi Sahni, Founder, and CEO, SHEF. The trainees shared their experience, as how their life has undergone a major transformation, making them self aware and independent. Ruchi, a student of NTT program said, “I came here as a mother to get my son’s admission, and became a student. This program boosted my confidence and has given new meaning to my life.” Shikha, another student said, “This program gave me a free space to learn and grow. I rediscovered myself through this program.”
Our founder Dr. Urvashi Sahni congratulated the students and said, “Our teacher training is atypical. They are personal transformation programs. Teachers learn who they are and that’s our biggest achievement.”
Ms. Shashi Mehta, principal of Prep School blessed the outgoing teachers, with a message of spreading quality education far and wide. Ms. Priya Kakkar, Director thanked the gathering for their presence.

 

Panel discussion held on International Women’s Day

On 8 March 2019, the Study Hall Educational Foundation organized a panel discussion on the occasion of International Women’s Day. The topic of this discussion was ‘Why the status of women in India is not a major election agenda’. This was held as part of annual India’s Daughters’ Campaign that Study Hall Educational Foundation conducts.
On this occasion, the guest Juhi Singh, spokesperson, Samajwadi Party, Rakesh Tripathi, spokesperson, Bhartiya Janta Party, Sadaf Jafar, spokesperson and Farah, member of Sheroes Hangout cafe were present and they discussed the topic.

The program started with the introduction of our esteemed guests. The discussion started with a very strong question asked by a Prerna Girls School student, Sapna Bharti. She asked, “I am a first-time voter. I want to ask why should I vote for a political party which does not have gender equality as a major issue on their manifesto?” The students continued to ask questions and our guests answered them.

In this discussion, Sadaf Jafar, spokesperson, Congress, said, “We must rise beyond political differences and collectively fight against structural violence that women face.” She also advised students, to read the manifesto of the party before voting and give the vote to a party which they think will help to build a better nation.

Juhi Singh, spokesperson, Samajwadi Party said, “We make event-based political agenda and we accept that. We will try and work on it. I see confident young women here who are capable of becoming strong political leaders in the future and I hope we will have more participation of women in politics in the future”.

Rakesh Tripathi, spokesperson, Bhartiya Janta Party, said, “women should stop believing they are weak and raise voice against the small issues they face, then only we can change the society”.

On this occasion, the parents of Prerna Girls School were also invited. For the last six years, the Aarohini Initiative organizes yearly India’s Daughters’ campaign that focuses on gender empowerment issues with the goal of raising awareness in the community about gender discrimination.

The program was concluded with the felicitation of the mothers of Prerna Girls School students and vote of thanks.

 

Science Exhibition held at Prerna Girls School

Prerna Girls school organized a science exhibition on 28th February 2019, at Study Hall School, Gomti Nagar. The theme of the exhibition was ‘Socho or Khojo’. The students created more than 70 models on topics like Science, Geography, Math, and History. The students performed computer presentations and psychology presentations. Models of Solar Energy was the center of attraction. The hard work of the children was appreciated by all.
The students made working electronic models such as electric coolers, washing machines etc. A play on photosynthesis was performed. On this occasion, the school’s principal Mrs. Rakhi Panjwani appreciated the hard work of girls and thanked the teachers for their help.

Vidyasthali Kanar Inter College organized its annual concert ‘Goonj’

Vidyasthali Kanar Inter College organized its annual concert on December 21st, 2018, at the Central Institute of Sub-tropical Horticulture. The theme of the concert was ‘Goonj’. Raj Bisariya, a director, producer, actor, and an educationalist, described by the Press Trust of India as ‘the father of the modern theatre in North India’, graced the occasion as chief guest.

The concert started with a welcome speech by Anusha Sharma, Principal, Vidyasthali Kanar Inter College. The students performed a skit, ‘Aam ke aam, guthliyon ke dam’, through which they informed the audience about the extinct varieties of mango. An english play,  ‘The Awful Eight’ was performed, which aimed at raising awareness about different air pollutants, their causes and effects. Students then performed a delightful sufi dance. A musical drama ‘Ambrosia – Nectar of life’, which portrayed how rivers are getting polluted by the selfish nature of humans and how to maintain the cleanliness and flow of the river.

Dr. Urvashi Sahni, Founder, and CEO, Study Hall Educational Foundation, said, “Students presented some very serious social and environmental issues and performed wonderfully”. She added, “Education is not about how qualified you are, it is about how much you have learned through education in your life”. On this occasion, Renu Yadav, alumni of Vidyasthali, shared her journey and spoke about how she feels more empowered now. She thanked the school and Study Hall Educational Foundation and launched the Vidyasthali Alumni Association. ‘Mai Savitri Bai Phule hoon’, a Hindi play, won the applause of the audience because of the social message it presented very effortlessly. The concert was greatly enjoyed by the audience and it showed the hard work of teachers and students. The program was concluded with the vote of thanks and national anthem. 

Annual concert held at Prerna school

Study Hall Educational Foundation’s Prerna School held its Annual Concert on 18th and 19th, December 2018, at the Study Hall school in Gomti Nagar.  ‘Sanjha Sansar’ was the theme of the program. Mrs. Sanyukta Bhatia, Mayor of Lucknow graced the occasion as the chief guest. The students presented delightful performances, which truly enthralled the audience. The programme started with a welcoming speech by the principal Rakhi Panjwani and followed by the song by the pre-primary students.  The students of pre-nursery performed a delightful dance on ‘Kaun hu main.’ The students of Prerna boys sang a beautiful song spreading the message of equality. The students of bridge course displayed their dramatic skills in the play, ‘Ladki haath se nikal gaye’.  The students of class nursery presented a puppet dance, which was highly appreciated. Kathak by class 1 students stole the hearts of the audience. The Prerna boys delighted the audience with the comic play ‘Jigyasa’.  The young ones of class 2 were part of a dance ‘Rang lo’ which was greatly enjoyed by the audience.

Addressing the audience chief guest, Sanyukta Bhatia said, “Girls are equal to boys and can do all the things a boy can do.”  She added, “we live in a society, where gender inequality is a major issue and to become a better society we need to make individuals efforts to deal with this issue.”

The program was followed by Nritya Natika, ‘Nikal tu khud ki Khoj me’.  The various dance performances like the inaugural dance, fusion dance, presentations by 4th, 6th, 7th and 8th, the students of 5th standard performed self-defense techniques to show people how can girls to defend themselves, a skit by performed by Prerna Boys, ‘Parivartan’  was highly loved and appreciated by the parents.

On this occasion, Dr. Urvashi Sahni Director and CEO, Study Hall Educational Foundation, congratulated students and appreciated the efforts and hard work of teachers and students.

The program was concluded with a delightful dance performance and vote of thanks.


Prerna girls invited to speak at Chicago summit

Obama Foundation and the Global Girls Alliance joined hands with the Study Hall Educational Foundation Educational Foundation to make a short film on Laxmi Nishad who is an alumna of the Prerna Gilrs School. Kiran Sahu who is currently a student of the Prerna Girls School has played the role of Laxmi in the film shared earlier. Laxmi, Kiran, and Dr. Urvashi Sahni were invited to Chicago to speak at the Obama Foundation Summit. Here is a glimpse of them on stage.
