Come August and, as Milton would say, Study Hall school heads to the “well trod stage.” Inter House Dramatics was staged on 9 August 2012 in the Sant Gadge Auditorium. The Jury comprised of Mrs. Manju Gupta, Vice Principal Chiranjeev Bharti, Mrs Shashi Mehta, Headmistress Prep School, Zahna Afzal alumni Study Hall. A large part of India still suffers from socio-economic divide. Indeed what is more dismaying is the apathy with which these contradictions are accepted by the society at large. Students are well apprised and sensitized to the shocking and shameful practices. This year too they picked up their pens and wrote scripts on corruption, caste, gender and poverty.
The first play “ Ek Naya Savera”by Cypress House depicted how a young girl faced caste bias. She left for the city, faced discrimination but got a benefactor who helped her to study medicine. She returned but before treating the upper caste elderly she asked a pertinent question if she was allowed to touch them. They asked for forgiveness and she successfully averted an epidemic.
Fire flame house play “Aaj Ka Abhimanyu” conveyed how a common man was oppressed and broken by the callousness and indifference of corrupt public servants. Saransh Virendra with his perfect and comic timing was adjudged the best actor.
Jacaranda House came up with an entertaining paradox depicting men undergoing similar discrimination like women. Memorable performances by Dharam and the rest of the cast effectively conveyed the issue of gender bias. The Play” Doosra Pahlu “was immensely enjoyed.
The winning play “Nav Vihan “by Silver oak house was replete with emotions and pathos. The play, brilliantly directed, was sparked off by a flashback of the protagonist victimized by poverty. What were noteworthy were the authentic sets and the heartfelt performance by Shruti Saxena which got her the first place.
The judges were highly impressed by the originality of the Plays, innovative sets and light & sound effects.The Principal Mrs. Shalini Sinha aptly commented that Education alone can unite our hearts to eliminate prejudices and inequalities. Dr Amrita Dass praised the school’s endeavour in empowering the youth to take charge of their lives and change the world for the better. The “Think and Share” session conducted by the Vice Principal Mrs. Meenakshi Bahadur evoked wonderful viewpoints on social inequalities from several students .Many of the students got the applause they so rightly deserved.
