Prerna school children give message of unity and equality through sports


On 29 December, 2019 Prerna Girls School and Prerna Boys School, units of Study Hall Educational.

Foundation organised their annual Sports day. The chief guest of the event was Mrs Vasundhara Kumari Singh. Prerna School’s sports day theme this year was ‘We are equal’. The sports day started with the principal of Prerna School welcoming the audience and lighting of the torch by the head girl and head boy of Prerna School.

The founder of Study Hall Educational foundation Dr Urvashi Sahni congratulated the children and the teachers for their hark work. She added, “Seeing this enthusiasm in the children, it is evident that our boys and girls will move forward together and make the world a better place.”

The children performed a dupatta drill. Girls and boys participated in 400-meter relay race, 100-meter race and 200-meter race. The boys performed a wand drill and class 6 girls performed yoga. The children of Prerna Boys competed in bamboo race.

A pyramid was formed by the girls and boys of Prerna School, giving out the message of equality. Lezium dance by the girls of class 9, 10, 11 and 12 was joyed thoroughly by the audience.

The day ended with prize distribution and vote of thanks.

Study Hall School felicitates its class 10 and 12 students

The Study Hall School organised its convocation ceremony on 28th December, 2019. Study Hall School, a unit of Study Hall Educational Foundation felicitated the students who successfully completed their class 10 and 12 CBSE board examination. Mr Sudhanshu Mani, retired general manager of Integral Coach factory.

The ceremony started with academic procession teachers and students. The principal of Study Hall School, Ms Shalini Sinha welcomed the audience.

Study Hall Educational Foundation’s founder Dr Urvashi Sahni congratulated the students and the parents. She addressed the students, “It’s an important landmark in your lives and I hope you take the lessons of equality, fraternity, freedom, love and care with you and share with others.”

The ceremony continued with a song performance by children of class 9 and the students who completed class 12 and 10 were awarded. A dance presented by class 12 students and the meritorious students were asked to share their experiences.

A day full of fun and frolic

On 14th of December, 2019 the Study Hall School, a unit of Study Hall Educational Foundation (SHEF) organized its annual Fete. More than 1500 people came to the fete. All the unit of SHEF participated in the carnival. The carnival was a great hit among the kids. The teachers of each unit of SHEF along with the students prepared different stalls with interesting games, food, face painting, handmade jewellery and crafts stalls and rides.

Games like ‘just ring it’, ‘treasure hunt’, minute to win it’ and ‘reaching for the sky were jam packed till the closing time. Food delicacies like chola bhatura, biriyani, burger, aloo chaat and many more south Indian and North Indian dishes made the day more enjoyable. The day was full of entertainment and was a success.

Study Hall School children showcase democratic values through performing arts

Study Hall School organised two day annual concert on 4 and 5 December, 2019 at Sant Gadge Ji Maharaj auditorium. The first day of the concert showcased drama, music and dance that focused on the theme ‘We the people of India’. 

The principal of Study Hall School, Shalini Sinha welcomed the audience and talked about the importance of teaching democratic values to children. She said, “we hope to inspire other schools to take initiatives to teach children their constitutional rights and help them become democratic citizens.” 

The founder of SHEF, Dr Urvashi Sahni addressed the audience and said, “For a thriving democracy, the people must learn to be active democratic citizens. At SHEF, we educate children not only to excel in academics but more importantly to become active democratic citizens” 

The show began with the school’s orchestra “SHIMONICS” presented a performance that included 14 instruments. Children of class 10 presented a song “KAUN HAI MADARI YAHAN, KAUN JAMOORA” written by SwanandKirkire, the song conveyed how we, the citizens, end up giving a lot of importance to the people in power and underestimate the true ethos of democracy – by the people, for the people. Class 7 presented a dance drama titled “JAATI NA PUCHO KOI” which emphasised the need to eradicate the discrimination that still prevails in the name of caste. Children of class 6th presented a dance drama “AND BETAAL ASKED” based on the tales of Vikram Betaal, the theme was brought out by Betaal by asking pointed questions about the class divide, while Vikram sheepishly tried to answer them. Class 8 children presented a drama “ASTITVA” about a woman’s struggle to search for her identity in a predominantly patriarchal country. Class 11 presented a drama “STILL ALIVE”, based on the autobiography of Mr. Manoranjan Byapari. The drama focused on injustice that Dalits have to face from members of higher castes.

The concert was brought to a close with Class 9 dramatized-dance performance “JAI HO” showcasing the transformation of India from being a British Colony to a Democratic nation. The audience thoroughly enjoyed the energetic performances and lauded the sincere efforts, hard work, and dedication of the children and teachers alike. 

Bringing life to canvas

On 8th November, Study Hall Educational Foundation’s Center for Learning (CFL) inaugurated their 3-day Arts and Crafts Exhibition. A total of 47 craft items and 30 paintings made by students on the theme ‘Srijan- creativity of life’ were showcased on the first day of the exhibition. The event was inaugurated by Mrs. Madhavi Kukreja, founder of Sanatkada along with the principal of CFL Ms Pratima Srivastava.

Madhvi Kukreja praised the children for their hard work and said, “I thoroughly enjoyed the exhibition, it’s such an amazing display of creativity and young talent.”

The exhibition aims to promote and celebrate young talents and motivate them to enhance their imaginations.The principal Ms Pratima Srivastava said, “We encourage and help our children to explore their creativity and this exhibition celebrates the talented young artists and craftsmen in our school.”
The children prepared the art and craft works under the supervision of the art and crafts teachers Anamika, Roshni and Manisha. The parents were also invited to the exhibition.

Make education, not marriage your goal

Study Hall Educational Foundation organized a panel discussion on the occasion of International Day of The Girl Child. The topic of this discussion was ‘Shadi Ek Matr Lakshya Nahi hai ladki ke jeevan ka’. Children of Prerna Girls School, Prerna Boys School and the alumni of Prerna Girls school were among the panelist.

Sapna Bharti a student of Prerna Girls School asked the parents, “To think about the dreams they had when they were kids, and what have they accomplished in their lives?” Majority of the parents of Prerna girls’, specially the mothers were married at an early age. 

Dr Urvashi Sahni addressed the parents and said, “We as parents need to realize that marriage is not the goal of girl’s life and we need stop seeing our girls as burden. They have every right to make decisions about their lives just like our boys. So, let them choose.”  

Moni Kannuajia, an alumna of Prerna said, “Marriage is not security. The society needs to change its notion of security. Many married women are raped, killed and are victims of domestic violence.”

Preeti Verma, an alumna of Prerna Girls School says, “As a married woman I want to tell you that marriage can be a part of your life but not the goal of your life. Being educated, independent and making your dreams come true should be the goal of your life.”

Tarun, a student of class 10th, Prerna Boys School said, “Girls have all the right to live their lives as they want, and we as men need to support them, encourage them. We need to stop this gender discrimination and make our homes and streets safe for our girls, then only our nation will succeed.”

The students of Prerna performed a play on the theme of the panel discussion. The core of this discussion was to make parents aware that marriage is not the goal of a girl’s life and that marriage cannot give security to their daughters. What will give them security is getting educated, knowing their rights and being independent.

Students of Prerna were also felicitated at the event. Aditi a student of Prerna will be competing in the nationals in the taekwondo championship, and 4 of Prerna girls have are on the national team which will represent India in Sweden next year.

Center for Learning convocation ceremony

Study Hall Educational Foundation (SHEF) felicitated the children of Center For Learning (CFL) for successful completion of their NIOS Board Examinations. CFL is an initiative of SHEF started in 2013 to educate children with multiple intelligence. It doesn’t adhere to the traditional education system, providing children with diverse learning needs through a flexible access to quality education.

Engage, Blend and Inspire: An interactive session among the students to understand Democratic Values

The Game of Democracy took place in the beautiful campus of Vidyasthali in Malihabad, surrounded by the lush green mango orchard. Children from different units of SHEF came together for the occasion. Coming from the diverse family backgrounds and ages, the children played together and performed for a better India. Together, they prepared 14 different performances including theatre, drawing, poetry, singing… even rap and nukkad natak and were staged with the creativity, strength, hope and sanity that only free and safe children can demonstrate.

Sahil shines at 3rd India International Down Syndrome conference in Chandigarh

Sahil attended the 3rd India International Down Syndrome conference 2019 in ‘The Lalit’, Chandigarh. He invited the speaker of Keynote address, Dr Bhavani Sriram from Singapore on stage, chaired her session and felicitated her at the end.
He was one of the 4 self-advocates on stage in self advocacy session chaired by the President of Down Syndrome federation of India (DSFI). He spoke about himself and delivered his presentation on self-advocacy which was appreciated and applauded by one and all.

‘Festival of Democracy’ at Study Hall School

Study Hall School celebrates Festival of ‘Democratic Citizenship Education. Over 17 Schools from the city participated in various competitive and non-competitive events.

Dr Urvashi Sahni says, “Education is a very powerful tool for social transformation. We don’t just educate our children for academic excellence; we educate them to become active democratic citizens.”

The main aim of this event was to raise awareness among the students and teachers regarding their constitutional rights and about the importance of democratic ideals, values, rights and responsibilities. Panel discussion was held on the topic – lessons of equality are as important as lessons of math and science. The students from different school voiced their opinions, the discussion concluded with – “that lessons of equality are as important as lessons of math and science but will only be effective if they are followed practically.” The event was followed by dance competition, debate, film-making, poetry writing, art competition, creative writing, soft board decoration and photography.

The overall winner of the ‘Festival of Democracy’ were La Martiniere Girls school and the first runners up were Prerna Girls School.
