Universe of Care

Study Hall Educational Foundation seeks to create a Universe of Care, in which everyone, teachers and students, feels respected and cared for . It is in this Universe of Care, the mutual respecting and caring that all persons begin to develop a sense of themselves as self-respecting, autonomous  beings.   They also learn to develop a deep feeling of connectedness with each other and a sense of being at ‘home’ in the world – “the world belongs to me and I have the right to feel at home in it”.  We view of the goal of all education as helping learners to find the answer to the question “Who am I and what is my relationship with the Universe and others in it.”  All our schools are guided by this fundamental philosophical principle!

We view the ‘development of SELF’ as a very important educational goal and bend all our efforts towards achieving this.  The curriculum in our schools not only encourages but demands that our students engage in critical thinking and dialoguing with each other on important issues related to themselves in the world.  We use the arts very deliberately towards this end.

Our students are exhorted and encouraged to develop an expanded sense of self, such that they learn to view the larger community and hopefully the entire universe as a part of themselves and think about them in a personal way.  We try to enable our children to become personal activists first, as they engage in the difficult task of constructing themselves and then move them on to becoming social activists as they learn to tackle the complex problems and issues facing their communities.  We  have put in place an ‘issue based curriculum’ such that we have placed social and political issues at the core of our academic curriculum thereby expanding the notion of the ‘academic’.  Our children learn to think intellectually, emotionally and practically about social justice issues like poverty, caste and gender.

Our Foundation has been consistently fulfilling its mandate to reach out to diverse groups and makes a special effort to reach the underserved through its various projects. Outreach is our motto and we lose no opportunity to expand our reach.
