Girls Speak Out

Dr Urvashi Sahni in discussion with mothers of the students of Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyala, Malihabad

Girls at Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya, Malihabad engaged with facilitators from Digital Study Hall in a movie making workshop. The critical dialogues held with the girls in the conceptualisation phase got them thinking about many problems around them which take roots in a gender biased society. The three one minute films highlight the issues of access to health care, general safety and education of girls. One of the main and unaddressed concern of girls remain the uncertainty of enrolling in secondary school and continuing education after graduating from KGBV. This uncertainty acts as a host to grave problems like child marriage.

Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya, Malihabad along with Digital Study Hall hosed a community screening of student’s video productions followed by a brief discussion on the issues mentioned above. The discussion aimed to embark on the course of a long journey. The journey of getting India’s daughters to be self-dependent and educated.
