Age at which child marriage was attempted: 16 years

Current Status: Happy married to the same boy she was suppose to marry when she was a minor and also as has a son. She is currently pursuing BA from IGNOU and also works a tailor from home.

Intervention approach: Approaching the to be groom’s employer was the critical factor here. He counseled the boy and ensured that the boy married the girl only when she turned 18.

Summary: Rinky was a student of Prerna Girls School studying in class 10th when her parents decided to marry her. A boy was also finalized. When the teachers came to know about the issue they approached her family, who blatantly refused to stop the marriage. This prompted the Prerna teachers to approach the boy who worked as a driver for a Merchant Navy official. The boy gladly accepted the invitation and came to meet the principal of the Prerna Girls School. During the meeting, the principal persuaded the boy to bring his employer , the Merchant Navy official, to come and meet her. The meeting resulted in the boy’s employer assuring the principal that the marriage would not happen. The couple eventually got married but only after Rinky turned 18.
